The overwhelming African-American support of California’s Proposition 8 is a clear indication of the deeply rooted Judeo-Christian values of the Black community. It was those same values that made them a persevering and resilient people, thus enabling them to endure and overcome horrific social injustice.
Perplexing and probably confusing to most is the fact that 70% of African Americans who voted against same sex marriage voted overwhelmingly in support of Barack Obama who is, in fact, a staunch supporter and advocate of same-sex rights. This political phenomenon can be easily explained.
Overwhelming numbers of African Americans went to the polls due to the candidacy Barack Obama and overwhelmingly they voted for the ban of same sex marriages. Inasmuch as the African-American community fully understood the issue of same-sex marriage and homosexual rights, they still do not know who Barack Obama is, and they predominately viewed him as our hope for the first Black president of the United States. If Obama had not been the democratic nominee for president, Proposition 8 probably would not have passed.
In the African-American community, it is basically understood: homosexual rights are not a civil rights issue! You do not give civil rights to sexual orientation, simply due to the fact that one’s orientation might be flawed. Civil rights are granted based on birth rights, not what we evolve to be.
I was born an African American. I will always be an African American. There is nothing I can do to change this. Therefore, it was cruel and inhumane for an earlier American society to strip me of my right to, ‘Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness,’ due solely to my race.
Martin Luther King, Jr. faced the question of homosexual rights during his fight for civil rights in the 1960’s. Bayard Rustin was the chief organizer of the march on Washington in 1963 and threatened to leave the movement if King did not include homosexual rights in his platform.
King vehemently refused. It was suggested that Rustin leave the movement, which he did. Consequently, in that historic march, there was never one step taken for homosexual rights. For the gay rights movement to claim sexual orientation as a civil right is erroneous and deceiving. African Americans are not homophobic but generally, ‘Christ centric,’ and desire to adhere to the tenants of the faith.
Let it also be known there are more individuals who have left homosexuality and lesbianism than those who are presently engaged in it. It is a shame our mainstream media never gives these citizens a platform from which to be heard.

I challenge the Reverend to prove this with any accepted statistical report
REVEREND…WHAT IS YOUR FINAL STANCE? IS IT ACCEPTABLE OR NOT??? DOES THE BIBLE CONDEMN HOMOSEXUALITY??? LETS GET TO THE POINT…
So if homosexuality has a biological/genetic basis homosexuals should have rights because ‘Civil rights are granted based on birth rights, not what we evolve to be.’ The science is clear and goes stronger everyday. Homosexuality is determined before birth. That is the case and thank you for your support. We appreciate it.
Now my question is, if your desire is to lead a life based on Biblical teachings you should not have any objection to slavery. It is an accepted fact in the Bible. There are no injunctions against it, in fact there are rules about how owners and slaves should behave. Now why is that part of the Bible wrong but the objections YOU find to homosexuals right. I’m sure you’ve already given your explanations a lot of thought so please let us all in on your reasoning.
Oh and another thing, you just made that stuff up about practicing and non-practicing homosexuals. There are no such stats.
The first point i want to make is, When examining scripture, there are who, what, when, where and why principles that must be involved. The second prelimiary point I want to make is that, there is no way I can take a neutral stance because I do have a belief.
1) Based on a theological examination, technically homosexuality is not biological, because all that God made was good. He made man and woman, and the first commandment to them technically was to be fruitful and multiply. Had homosexuality been in view from what we know now, two men nor two women together cannot produce a offspring(SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN), he would have added another scenario in light of homosexuality.
2) What is the beginning of science? where did science come from? Science has yielded some of the most greatest achievements in history, but yet the MOST TRAVESTIES IN HUMAN HISTORY also. Science is and will ALWAYS be based on trial and error(SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN), however, God, as is known, by any organized religion, never can be associated with trial and error, surety is always associated with God.
“With that being said, since science is based on trial and error, and biological homosexuality is based on science, therefore biological homosexuality is based on trial and error” therefore what’s so-called proven now, can always be reversed through scrutiny which can yield new fact that will reverse the former (SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN).
3) The fallacy you have just provided about slavery can be overcome through the entire book of Exodus and Leviticus, how could that be so if God commanded Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Had God been an advocate of slavery, the bible in any version, would have stopped after the book of Exodus.
“Hint: just because something is commonplace, doesn’t mean its accepted or advocated. Child murdering is common place in the world now, is it acceptable??? NO!”
“Oh and another thing, you just made that stuff up about practicing and non-practicing homosexuals. There are no such stats.”
NOW THIS I AGREE WITH, non could ever be compiled!
wow. just wow. keelodre is so lost in his own circle of supremely flawed logic he can’t even see his own head up his ass. it’s so sad to see religious fanatics try and use “science” against scientists. I could retort on how absurd this is, but richard dawkins said it best, as did sam harris and christoper hitchens. presuming you’re not afraid of a little reading rattling your faith, why not check out logic that is air tight. instead of your own which resembles a piece of swiss cheese(SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN).
Y’know, keelodre *does* make a good point… Scientific knowledge evolves and is indeed subject to fallacy. One bad observation (by human eyes) can ruin a whole experiment. I’m not saying it’s all trash, I love science. But it’s worth remembering, lest we enthrone it (our ability to do science) and worship it unintentionally.
Also, although I do support gay rights to live peacefully, respectfully, protected by law, etc., I too cringe when they compare their fight to the plight of the African-Americans. SO not the same thing.
