Today, Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and evolving into El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz before his assassination at age 40, would have-should have-been 84 years old. His brilliant analytical mind, his laser-sharp wit, his searing passion and his commitment to a life of truth and integrity have had a profound influence on millions throughout the world, providing inspiration to this day.
A few of his unforgettable-and still oh-so relevant-quotes include:
“I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.”
“I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against.”
“If you’re not ready to die for it, put the word ‘freedom’ out of your vocabulary.”
“Power in defense of freedom is greater than power in behalf of tyranny and oppression.”
The wonderful blog, JackandJillPolitics has a great story comparing Malcolm X and President Obama, which we are sharing with you in celebration of the lives of two truly great and unforgettable men whose genius, vision and pioneering spirits are leaving an indelible mark on our lives and the world that we share.
