This week marks the 14th anniversary of the exoneration of Rolando Cruz, who served more than a decade on Illinois’ death row before DNA testing proved his innocence. Cruz was convicted three times of a murder he didn’t commit before evidence obtained by the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University led to his release.
