Is This Racist?
The Wrong Kind of Color-Blindness in Hollywood
How “new” can an all-white Hollywood be? Controversy is swirling around the latest cover of Vanity Fair magazine, which features nine young Hollywood actresses and muses—all very young, very thin and exclusively white. There are no Asian, Black, Middle Eastern or Latina actresses featured in “A New Hollywood 2010.”

Personlly I think this is prejuice . Now we have black president I’m think the magzines that are not fousced toward black people should have changed . I m look disney changed they said they never would do a movie based on our back ground . So , I would say that the magizine eiditors are racists to some degree . But they still act like that white very thin women are the only way to look and wonder why all girls have issuse about their looks .
That photo is no more racist than the photos in JET magazine or in any one of the latino magazines. Why do people always have to make it a race issue when they see something that they don’t like? Are they jealous of something or are they just trying to stir their people up ” whether they are black, brown, yellow, red, white or green?
We are all Americans. Except those who are in this country illegaly, We should all be aware tf this issue.
EVERYTHING is about race with blacks.
If they get up in the morning and their milk is sour : RACISM
If they forget to take a bath : RACISM
If they dont get a job because theyre unworthy : RACISM
If there isnt enough salt in the food theyre eating : RACISM
When are people going to figure out that blacks are the most racist bunch of people ANYONE has ever met.
Im sick and tired of being called ‘racist’ from the RACIST….and am ready to eradicte this problem once and for all in this country.
HINT : its not your color…..its your behavior. Its not your skin-tone…its your attitude.
I dont like the black culture..because of this…. http://www.colorofcrime.com/
Personally, I wished we all here in America could GIVE you all the 40 acres and a mule, leave you all to your own devices….and leave us the hell alone with all of you alls antics to get something for nothing. For all of this billowing about not being treated fairly is absurd. blacks drive nicer cars, get the good jobs, get free housing, free food, free gas for your ‘chariot’, passes in school when you dont deserve it….etc….
Yeah, I cant wait until this dormant war kick off. All of the tears will end up in dried stains on the faces.
OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS RACISM. Asking the question is idiotic. How can you protest a situation if you can’t even corectly recognize it.
As a Black some might disagree with me but I don’t view this Vanity Fair cover as being racist because I don’t or won’t deny other cultures to represent themselves. The problem manifest itself when others are denied the opportunity to participate. For those that are too youth to know or remember I grew up in a time of America where only the radio and the television all you saw were White people, all you heard were White voices for years. Now in the year 2010 a citizen is accepted as the first half-Black American. Those who complained about Blacks always claim racism, you’ve made some valid points but understand this racism in this country is in no way gone and where racism could have been addressed years, and years ago we have to face the fall out from this situation today which we created for ourselves.
who cares. its a magazine. part of the problem in this world is that everyone is too overly sensitive, always looking for something to be pissed off about.
perhaps they weren’t even thinking about it in terms of race when they shot the picture? They are all actresses who were in popular movies this year. That’s probably how they approached it. I don’t believe the reason they didn’t add Gabourey Sidibe has to do w/ her color. Probably more so her size. It’s Vanity Fair after all. They don’t care about race, they care about looks.

I have not read the article; only viewed the picture but I find it unacceptable that no African-American actress was included in the group. Nothing against the while ladies shown but talent, looks and character are not the monopoly of a single race. Perhaps the agents/publicists/managers, etc. of each young lady had sufficient ‘pull’ to get them on the cover, which brings up another point–Where are the Black/African-American promoters for Black talent? Do they exist? Do they have power and influence? Do they have open doors for presenting their talent? Are they connected appropriately with presence in the ‘right’ circles?
This is the Hollywood Vanity Fair wants. Absent of diversity. We have encountered this ignorance for 100 years in the media. Its a shame that the women in the photo agreed with Vanity’s vision.
