Change Counts on You!
Be sure to return your completed Census form today! In the 2000 Census, approximately 67 percent of Americans returned the Census form. Let’s increase that number drastically in this year’s Census.
When we don’t complete and mail back our Census forms, we lose. The 2000 Census is estimated to have missed nearly 1 million people of color, including:
- 628,000 African Americans—1.84% of all African Americans in the USA—the largest undercounted population among all minority groups in 2000.
- 248,000 Latinos—0.71% of all Latinos nationwide
- 22,000 Native Americans living away from reservations—0.62% of all Native Americans living away from reservations nationwide
- 13,000 Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders—2.12% of all Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders nationwide.
At the same time, however, the 2000 Census actually double-counted some non-Hispanic whites, overestimating them by 1.13%, or approximately 2.2 million people. This made them the largest over-counted population in the 2000 Census.
You do the math. Then take 10 minutes to answer those 10 questions that lead to precious resources for your community. If we’re not counted, we don’t count. www.CountonChange2010.org.
