Jerry Miller

Jerry Miller, a military veteran, spent 26 years in prison for a 1981 Chicago rape he didn’t commit before DNA testing, obtained with the help of the Innocence Project, proved his innocence. While Miller denied any role in the crime, at trial the victim testified that Miller looked like her attacker. Miller was found guilty and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Subsequent DNA testing of the victim’s slip excluded Miller, and the Cook County State Attorney’s Office, the Innocence Project and the County Public Defender’s Office filed a joint motion to vacate the conviction. Miller was officially exonerated three years ago this week, becoming the 200th person in the U.S. exonerated through DNA evidence.
