“We hold these truths to be self-evident . . .” For more than 60 years, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) has fought to make these hallowed words of the Constitution a reality and to help America reach its highest potential. Now, LDF is expanding its responsibility and challenge as the nation’s premier civil rights law firm through TheDefendersOnline, a new forum for the discussion of those events and ideas that have always been at the heart of America’s civil rights struggle: race, justice, equality and democracy. TheDefendersOnline will be a dynamic force in the discussion of key issues and current events in the United States and around the world. Our contributors include an eclectic mix of attorneys, leaders, authors, activists, educators, novelists, students, poets, journalists, elected officials, bloggers and others who have compelling insights about today’s progress and challenges. TheDefendersOnline continues LDF’s long and proud tradition to DEFEND, EDUCATE and EMPOWER all Americans. “LDF has been fighting in the courts for the better half of a century to bring about equal justice for all Americans,” says John Payton, LDF President and Director Counsel. “The time has come for LDF to expand its efforts by providing an exciting forum for the exchange of ideas from our nation’s leading thinkers on the state of civil rights today.” TheDefendersOnline publishes weekdays, excluding holidays. This blog is produced by the LDF Communications team, and is edited by three authors with extensive journalistic experience: Lee A. Daniels, Editor-in-Chief; TaRessa Stovall, Managing Editor; and Stacey Patton, Senior Editor. Our team also includes the expertise of Kathryn Bowser, Art Director; Mel Gagarin, Media Manager; Charles Greene, Web Technical Manager; Kevin Lewis, Web Technical Assistant; and Kasha Dragon, Communications Assistant.
